Believing in God is not about religion, never once does the Jesus say 'join a religion', not that there's anything wrong with being part of a religion but it's much deeper than that; instead God calls us to a relationship with Him through His son Jesus. Jesus says 'I am the way, the truth and the life' (John 14:6) and to 'follow me'. God wants a relationship with you, that’s the reason he sent His son Jesus.
Want that relationship?
God respects your free will and he won't force His way into your life, if you want to invite Him into your life or renew your faith, say this simple prayer;
"Father God, I turn from my sin and ask for your forgiveness. I accept your son Jesus' sacrifice on the cross as the payment for all of my sin, and from this moment on I receive him as Lord and Savior of my life, Amen’.
Accepting Jesus into your life is the start of your new life, your walk with Him is a life time journey. As with any relationship, you need to stay connected, even Jesus maintained a close relationship with God. He prayed regularly and on many occasions left the crowds just to spend time alone with His Father.
Pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17), anywhere, any time! God is with you always wherever you go. Talk to him like you are talking to your closest friend. 'Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for what he has done' (Philippians 4:6).
Another important way to maintain that relationship is to read the Bible everyday. One way God speaks to us is through His Word, 'For the word of God is alive and active' (Hebrews 4:12). Start from the New Testament Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and think about how the scriptures apply to your life. Surround yourself with people that will help you in your walk of faith and ask God to reveal himself to you, and he will.
